Discussion:
Need Web Developer Volunteer for MailScanner

I have had revamping the MailScanner website on the back burner for a while. If someone is willing, we need a basic template using Bootstrap 3 and jQuery. The current MailScanner site is static HTML, and we are going to leave it that way for now. For the foreseeable future we are going to use resources on Github for collaboration, so www.mailscanner.info will mostly be informational with download links, etc.

Example base template:
http://getbootstrap.com/examples/navbar-fixed-top/

Components
- Fixed navbar (like the example page)
- Sticky footer
- Scroll to top (bottom right)

Theme
- Grey, white, some yellow.
- I have the images (eps, etc.), which Jules wants me to keep private. Just use placeholders until deployment.

Content
- Main page:
? general description, etc.
? a block for Jules? online shop items
? Quick links for install, guides
? News Release

- Documentation page (mostly links)

- Support (see current site)

- Other items you might think relevant

If I can get a volunteer, that would be great. However, if you volunteer I ask that you be timely and responsive.

Hello Jerry,

I stumbled over this when going through my ... backlog... of emails, hence
the late reply:-)

I see that so far there has been little (or even no) change to the official
MailScanner site, which is kind of unfortunate... things like there still
being a download for ClamAV 0.96.5 (in the clam+sa package), which is newly
desupported entirely, make the project look like abandonware...
So my question is simply: Did you ever get a volunteer? Is an update
imminent?
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to donate ATM (and would most
certainly fail the prerequisite of answering in a timely fashion:-), but
perhaps someone else is ... less preoccupied:-)

Cheers!

That looks very nice Hristo. I"m sure that when Jerry is sorted with that
move, he'll be thrilled to work on the implementation with you! Jerry has
inherited the website from Jules, so has to be the one to say y/n...:-)
And yes, I think you have the structure down pat.

Yep. you might get through faster if you drop him a line directly,
since he might be ... prioritizing... that channel over the ML:-)... I
suppose the address would be jerry.benton at mailborder.com ...

Cheers!

That looks very nice Hristo. I"m sure that when Jerry is sorted with that move, he'll be thrilled to work on the implementation with you! Jerry has inherited the website from Jules, so has to be the one to say y/n...:-) And yes, I think you have the structure down pat.
Cheers!

A "Paper" version to discuss ideas...

Alternative option is to move to 2 column and use 2'nd column for sponsors and book.

P.S. I realize picture is not really great and my handwriting is not best, but you should get the idea.

Glenn,
No, no one. I have had to keep pushing this since May. I am in the middle of a move from Germany to the USA, so it has been pushed again.
On Thursday, August 7, 2014, Glenn Steen <
Hello Jerry,
I stumbled over this when going through my ... backlog... of emails, hence the late reply:-)
I see that so far there has been little (or even no) change to the official MailScanner site, which is kind of unfortunate... things like there still being a download for ClamAV 0.96.5 (in the clam+sa package), which is newly desupported entirely, make the project look like abandonware...
So my question is simply: Did you ever get a volunteer? Is an update imminent?
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to donate ATM (and would most certainly fail the prerequisite of answering in a timely fashion:-), but perhaps someone else is ... less preoccupied:-)
Cheers!

I have had revamping the MailScanner website on the back burner for a while. If someone is willing, we need a basic template using Bootstrap 3 and jQuery. The current MailScanner site is static HTML, and we are going to leave it that way for now. For the foreseeable future we are going to use resources on Github for collaboration, so
www.mailscanner.info will mostly be informational with download links, etc.
http://getbootstrap.com/examples/navbar-fixed-top/
Components
- Fixed navbar (like the example page)
- Sticky footer
- Scroll to top (bottom right)
Theme
- Grey, white, some yellow.
- I have the images (eps, etc.), which Jules wants me to keep private. Just use placeholders until deployment.
Content
? general description, etc.
? a block for Jules? online shop items
? Quick links for install, guides
? News Release
- Documentation page (mostly links)
- Support (see current site)
- Other items you might think relevant
If I can get a volunteer, that would be great. However, if you volunteer I ask that you be timely and responsive.

This was the basic format I was probably going to implement. It would probably be 3x6x3 or 2x8x2

http://getbootstrap.com/examples/navbar-fixed-top/

I am also considering a CMS so that updates can be easily made. This would also allow for content versioning, etc. It would also allow certain authors to help maintain the site. (access restrictions)

As I mentioned, I am in the middle of a move, so it may be a couple of months. I also have the next version of MailScanner ready, but I need to work out, on a long term basis, how we are going to create the source, rpm, and deb packages from Github. The new version includes some basic fixes like the -U option along with some other fixes for deprecated items in perl. (And of course the infamous tnef issue.)
