Important MailScanner List Change - Please Read

I have the new mailman server setup for MailScanner. However, the member list is 15 years old and you would not believe the number of bounces it had today when the system inadvertently sent out reminder emails today. The DNS for the mailscanner.info domain will flip today, so the new mailman server will be available in 24 to 48 hours after that. I am removing EVERYONE. I know it sucks, but I’ll be damned if I am going to spend 60 hours parsing these logs and manually removing the bad addresses.

Please go sign up again in 24 hours or so. If this lists page is not a pretty Bootstrap 3 looking page, then you are on the wrong server. The new server should resolve to 166.78.111.245. There list server is here:

http://lists.mailscanner.info/listinfo/mailscanner

I have transferred over the archives, so they are all still available. Again, I can’t spend my whole life parsing these logs for bad emails. Apologies.

Problem is, not all mailservers bounce messages in a way that mailman
can't parse.

Sure, most mailservers are probably set up with sane,
standards-compliant bounce messages... But "most mailservers" may not
accurately represent "most mailservers hosting addresses for subscribers
to this list"

can't parse.
We (Mailman developers) go to a lot of trouble to be able to parse every
form of DSN we've ever seen. We recognize multiple dozens. See
<http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mailman-coders/mailman/2.1/files/head:/tests/bounces/>
for a sample of what we recognize.

In addition, Mailman has a VERP capability that allows determining a
bouncing user without parsing the message (which is still parsed to
determine if it is a temp fail).

We can't do anything about MTAs that don't report to the envelope
sender, but otherwise, if you have a DSN that isn't recognized by
Mailman, sanitize it (mung the personal info) and report it at
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+filebug>, and we'll update our
recognizers.

Bounce management is on now.

All the NDRs for the last 24 hours were sorted, uniqued and removed from the list.

So, do we still need to sign up again? Or is the membership list being
transferred to the new server now?

And yes, everyone should still go sign up. It should take another 24 hours or so for the DNS to flip. The mailscanner.info domain just transferred about 3 hours ago.

You realise the DNS could simply have been updated? Julian has full control over this in his Control panel … just saying :)
